General Rules

The Cayuga Fitness Challenge will be an 8-week competition that runs from Monday, March 13, 2017 through Sunday, May 7, 2017.

A Point System has been developed to calculate how many points a person can earn each day. Players participating in the Fitness Challenge will track the following on a daily basis, based on ONE of the following:

  • Daily Steps (using a pedometer or fitness tracker)
  • Physical Activity and exercise routines
  • Losing % of Body Weight (based on a formula)

If you participate in the Steps Challenge, you will track their daily total steps using a pedometer to earn POINTS each day. Strive for at least 10,000 steps each day (2,000 steps is approximately one mile).

If you participate in the Physical Activity/Exercise Challenge, you will track any physical activity and exercises to earn points based on those routines. You will earn points based on how long you exercise so everyone earns the same amount of points. For example, if you do 30 minutes on an elliptical you will earn the same amount of points as everyone else who does the same 30 minutes.

If you participate in the Weight-Loss Challenge, you will track your weight-loss during the competition. There is an initial weigh-in by Cayuga’s campus nurse (Susan Wilson). Outside recordings of weight will not be allowed – this is to keep it fair and honest. Total privacy will be provided and no one will know your weight. It will NOT be shown to anyone.

How much does it cost?

The cost to participate in this year’s Cayuga Fitness Challenge is $12 per person. CASH ONLY please – no personal checks will be taken.

How do you play?

Each player will choose one of three fitness challenges to participate in: a steps challenge, exercise challenge, or a weight-loss challenge.

If you choose the Steps Challenge, you strive for at least 10,000 steps each day (2,000 steps is approximately one mile). Each player will need a pedometer at the beginning of the competition and will be asked to keep track of their total steps. An Activity Worksheet is available for download if you want to keep track on paper, but each player will enter their step totals by logging into this website and recording them in your profile account. Make sure you purchase a pedometer before the competition starts! Purchase a good pedometer with memory, a fitness tracker such as a FitBit, or use a pedometer application on your smartphone.

If you choose the Excercise Challenge, you track any physical activity and exercise routines that you normal would do. You will earn points based on time and what exercise you are performing. Example: if you use the Stair Master for 10 minutes you will earn the same amount of points as everyone else who does the same 10 minutes. Whether you weigh 100 lbs or 250 lbs – it will all be the same.

If you choose the Weight-Loss Challenge, you track your weight-loss during the competition. There is an initial weigh-in at the beginning and end of the Fitness Challenge. Outside recordings of weight will not be allowed – this is to keep it fair and honest. Points are given based on the percentage of weight you’ve lost during the 8-weeks.

NOTE: Bonus points have been used in the past, but not this year.

How many winners are there?

NEW FOR 2017! This year’s Fitness Challenge no longer has teams – this year we doing INDIVIDUAL challenges. When you register for the Challenge, you will need to choose one of the following to compete in: the steps challenge, the exercise challenge, or the weight-loss challenge. Top winners will be recognized for each of those three categories.
